What we’re talking about:

Today I’m speaking with Yushara, who has completed a Bachelor of Science at Monash University followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne before embarking on her career as a vet. We talk about applying for courses in multiple states, exactly how the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine works, and the experiences that Yushara has had in her career so far.

Applying for courses interstate

Yushara applied for courses in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, and we discuss the logistics of applying, why it’s worth considering and the things you need to think about when offers are released.

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Yushara talks us through the pathways into this course and how to apply. She also explains what you study within the course and the structure of the course, including the hands-on aspect in the final 2 years.

Yushara’s career as a vet so far

Yushara spent the first year of her career working in a suburban vet clinic working with an amazing team to look after pets (and their owners). More recently she’s been working in Canberra in the Animal Health Policy branch in the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. She explains the varied roles and opportunities that are available to vets beyond what most of us would think.
